Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk 110°F
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
For the Filling
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries or frozen, thawed
For the Icing
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, eggs, sugar, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
Knead the Dough
  1. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. Lightly grease a bowl and place the dough inside. Cover with a towel and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
  1. In a small bowl, mix together softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
Roll Out the Dough
  1. After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a 12 x 18-inch rectangle.
Assemble the Rolls
  1. Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the dough, then sprinkle the blueberries evenly on top.
  2. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
Final Rise
  1. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise for about 30 minutes until puffy.
Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
Make the Icing
  1. While rolls cool, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

Use fresh blueberries for the best flavor. Don’t rush the rising time for light and fluffy rolls. Experiment with flavors by adding lemon zest or nuts. Keep an eye on the rolls toward the end of baking to avoid overbaking.
