Batter Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs Should be at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Measure correctly by spooning and leveling
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional) For added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and brown sugar. Mix until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, and then add vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  4. If using, gently fold in nuts or chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
  2. Let the brownies cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Once cool, cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave if desired.
