Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 teaspoons blackening seasoning See notes for options
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large lemon, juiced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by gathering all your ingredients. Ensure the shrimp are peeled, deveined, and patted dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a bowl, toss the shrimp with blackening seasoning, salt, and pepper until evenly coated. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  2. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side until they develop a nice char, then flip over and cook for an additional 2 minutes until pink and cooked through.
  3. Toss the asparagus into the skillet, and stir everything together for about 3-4 minutes until the asparagus is bright green and tender but still crisp.
  4. Remove the skillet from heat and squeeze fresh lemon juice over the shrimp and asparagus. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
Serving
  1. Plate your dish and enjoy your delicious and vibrant blackened shrimp alongside asparagus!

Notes

Substitutions: Not a fan of shrimp? You can easily swap it out for Halal-certified chicken or firm fish like salmon! Timing: Ensure not to overcrowd the pan for that perfect sear on the shrimp. Avoid common mistakes: The key to a great blackened crust is using a hot skillet.
