Ingredients

For the Dumplings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup water
For the Filling
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries Can substitute with frozen blackberries, adjust sugar as needed.

Method

Preparation
  1. Wash the blackberries gently under cold water and allow them to drain in a colander. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Stir in the melted butter and milk. Mix just until the dough comes together; a few lumps are okay.
Cooking
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, bring 1 cup of water to a gentle simmer.
  2. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough onto the water's surface, carefully placing them apart.
  3. Spoon the blackberries over the dumplings. Cover the saucepan with a lid and cook for 10-12 minutes.
  4. Check for doneness; the dumplings should look shiny and bounce back when touched.
Serving
  1. Gently transfer the dumplings to a serving dish. Drizzle honey or sprinkle powdered sugar over the top for sweetness.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. They can also be frozen for about a month.
