  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Frosting
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until no lumps remain.
  3. In a separate bowl, blend the melted butter with the eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan or line with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the pan and spread it evenly.
Baking
  1. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  2. Allow the brownies to cool before adding frosting, if desired.
Frosting and Serving
  1. Blend cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Spread over cooled brownies if using.
  2. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Store remaining brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for about a week.
