Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and sea salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, use a handheld mixer to cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until incorporated.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
- Pour the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, shaping it into a large circle about 1 inch thick.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown, and the center looks slightly underbaked.
- Allow the cookie to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a thicker cookie, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Adjust the baking time depending on your oven's characteristics. Experiment with flavors like a pinch of cinnamon or almond extract.
