Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure the puff pastry gets a lovely golden color.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and diced onion. Season with salt and pepper and cook until browned and onions are soft, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain excess grease, add ketchup and mustard to the skillet, stir to combine, then mix in shredded cheese, allowing it to melt slightly.
Assembly
- Roll out puff pastry sheets on a floured surface, cut into approximately 3x3 inch squares.
- Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each square. Brush edges with beaten egg and fold to create a triangle or rectangle, pressing firmly to seal.
- Crimp the edges with a fork for decoration.
Baking
- Place the assembled bites on a lined baking sheet, brush tops with egg wash, and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Best enjoyed warm!
Notes
For a leaner alternative, use ground chicken or turkey. You can prepare the beef mixture a day in advance to save time. Avoid overfilling pastries to prevent them from bursting during baking.
