Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 cup refried beans Can use traditional or vegetarian refried beans.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend) For melting and flavor.
  • 4 large flour tortillas Use whole wheat for added nutrition.
Toppings and Extras
  • 1 cup salsa Choose your heat level.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream For serving.
  • 1/2 cup chopped lettuce Adds crunch.
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes Fresh diced tomatoes preferred.
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions Optional, for added flavor.
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapenos Optional, for a spicy kick.

Method

Cooking Beef and Beans
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Stir in the refried beans until everything is combined and heated through.
Prepare Tortillas
  1. While the beef mixture is cooking, warm the flour tortillas in the microwave for about 30 seconds, or until they are soft and pliable.
Assemble Burritos
  1. Once the beef and beans are warmed, place a few spoonfuls in the center of each tortilla.
  2. Top with shredded cheese, fresh tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos if you prefer some heat.
  3. Fold in the sides of each tortilla, then roll it from the bottom up to form a secure burrito.
Serve
  1. Serve with salsa and sour cream on the side for dipping. Enjoy your homemade Beef Burrito while it’s still warm!

Notes

For substitutions, try ground poultry or a mix of vegetables for a lighter option. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
