Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cut the French bread into cubes and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Evenly distribute the sliced bananas over the bread cubes.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until fully combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread and bananas. Gently press the bread down to ensure it absorbs the mixture.
- Melt the butter and drizzle it over the top of the casserole for extra richness.
Baking
- Cover the dish with foil and place it in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- After that, remove the foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
Serving
- Let it cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve with a dollop of whipped cream on each piece.
Notes
Feel free to use whole wheat or gluten-free bread as alternatives. For best results, let the bread soak in the custard mixture for at least 30 minutes or overnight. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze individual portions.
