Ingredients

For the banana layer
  • 4 pieces ripe bananas – sliced Use overripe bananas for optimal sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter – melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar – packed
For the cake batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan evenly with butter.
  2. Pour the melted butter into the bottom of the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the butter. Arrange the sliced bananas in a circular pattern on the brown sugar mixture.
Mixing and Baking
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, and mix until just combined.
  3. Carefully pour the batter over the banana layer in the cake pan, ensuring it covers the bananas entirely.
  4. Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Run a knife around the edges, then invert the cake onto a serving platter. Gently lift the pan off to reveal the beautiful banana topping.
