Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan evenly with butter.
- Pour the melted butter into the bottom of the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the butter. Arrange the sliced bananas in a circular pattern on the brown sugar mixture.
Mixing and Baking
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, and mix until just combined.
- Carefully pour the batter over the banana layer in the cake pan, ensuring it covers the bananas entirely.
- Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Serving
- Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Run a knife around the edges, then invert the cake onto a serving platter. Gently lift the pan off to reveal the beautiful banana topping.
Notes
To keep your banana upside-down cake fresh, store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. To enjoy it warm later, simply microwave a slice for about 15-20 seconds.
