Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pieces ripened bananas, sliced
  • 1 box vanilla instant pudding mix (3.4 oz)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tub whipped topping, thawed (8 oz)
  • 1 cup vanilla wafers, crushed and some left whole for layering
Optional Toppings
  • chocolate chips for topping
  • crushed nuts for topping
  • fresh berries for topping

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the vanilla instant pudding mix and milk until well combined. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to thicken.
  2. Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the pudding mixture until well blended. Be careful not to deflate the whipped topping too much; you want to keep that light and airy texture.
  3. Start layering the dessert in a large trifle dish or individual serving bowls. Begin with a layer of the pudding mixture, followed by a layer of sliced bananas, and then a layer of crushed vanilla wafers. Repeat these layers until you’ve used up all your ingredients, finishing with a layer of whipped topping on top.
  4. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld together and the wafers to soften.
  5. Just before serving, add any desired toppings, like chocolate chips, nuts, or fresh berries for that extra flair!

Notes

For best flavor, serve shortly after preparation. The dessert can last in the refrigerator for 3-5 days but is not suitable for freezing. A common mistake is over-mixing the whipped topping; gently fold it into the pudding mixture for a perfect fluff.
