Ingredients

Donut Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder Ensure it's fresh for best rise
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda Ensure it's fresh for best rise
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Can use a Halal-friendly substitute
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pan lightly with cooking spray or melted butter.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to ensure no lumps.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix; a few lumps are fine.
  5. Scoop the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the donuts are lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  7. Let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, let the donuts cool slightly before serving. You can substitute the buttermilk with a mix of milk and lemon juice if needed. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
