Ingredients
  

For the Custard
  • 4 large large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the French Toast
  • 1 loaf French bread Can substitute with challah or brioche.
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter For dotting on top before baking.
  • powdered sugar for serving Dust on top before serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the loaf of French bread into thick slices, about 1-inch each. Arrange the slices in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, overlapping them slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until completely combined.
  4. Pour half of the custard mixture evenly over the bread slices. Sprinkle sliced strawberries on top and cover with the remaining custard mixture.
  5. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to soak the bread.
  6. Dot the top with small pieces of butter before placing the dish in the oven.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  2. Once baked, let it cool for a few minutes and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For added richness, consider using challah or brioche instead of French bread. This dish can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
