Ingredients

For the Apple Roses
  • 2 medium apples Choose crisp and slightly tart varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 1 sheet puff pastry Keep chilled until ready to use.
  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted) For brushing on pastry.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds a warm spice flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar For sweetening the pastry.
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkling For serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash the apples, slice them thinly, and remove the cores.
  3. Place the apple slices in a bowl and cover them with water. Microwave for about 2 minutes to soften them, then drain.
  4. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet to a thin rectangle. Cut the pastry into strips, about 2 inches wide.
  5. Brush the melted butter over the pastry strips. Mix the cinnamon and sugar together, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered pastry.
Assembly
  1. Start placing the softened apple slices on one end of the pastry strip, overlapping slightly.
  2. Continue layering until you reach the other end of the strip.
  3. Carefully roll the pastry strip to form a rose shape, pinching the ends to secure.
Baking
  1. Place the rolled apple roses into a greased muffin tin to help maintain their shape.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and flaky.
Serving
  1. Let the apple roses cool for a few minutes before dusting them with powdered sugar, and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Consider adding vanilla extract or nutmeg for added flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
