Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Chilled for best results
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup ice water Add gradually until dough forms
For the Filling
  • 1 cup apple pie filling Store-bought or homemade
  • 1 large egg, beaten For egg wash
  • Cinnamon sugar For sprinkling on top

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the cubed cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, mixing until the dough forms a ball.
Chilling and Rolling
  1. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Flour your work surface and roll the dough out to about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Cut the dough into rectangles—enough for the top and bottom of the pop tarts.
Assembly
  1. Place a spoonful of apple pie filling onto one rectangle, leaving space around the edges.
  2. Moisten the edges with the beaten egg, then place another rectangle on top, sealing the edges with a fork.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Gently prick the top of each pastry with a fork to release steam while baking.
  3. Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  4. Place the pop tarts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Allow the pop tarts to cool for a few minutes before serving.
  2. Enjoy them fresh out of the oven or at room temperature.

Notes

To store leftovers, place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Frozen pop tarts can last up to three months; bake from frozen for about 12-15 minutes.
