Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed (not boiling)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
Filling Ingredients
  • 2 cups diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
Icing Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Method

Preparation of Dough
  1. In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and 1/4 cup sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the egg, 1 cup of flour, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until combined.
Kneading and Rising
  1. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  2. On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preparing the Filling
  1. While the dough rises, combine the diced apples, lemon juice, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and brown sugar in a bowl. Set aside to marinate.
Assembling the Rolls
  1. After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  3. Starting from one edge, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the seams to seal.
  4. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  5. Cover the dish with a towel and let the rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes, until puffy.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Preparing the Icing
  1. Whisk together the powdered sugar and 1-2 tablespoons of milk to achieve a smooth glaze.
Serving
  1. Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls and serve immediately to your eager family and friends!

Notes

You can swap out all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour for a healthier twist. Allow your dough to rise in a warm environment for best results.
