  • 1 teaspoon flour For tossing apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter For topping, cut into pieces

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a small bowl, toss the diced apples with 1 teaspoon of flour.
Mix the Cake Batter
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the sugar mixture and mix until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Add the sour cream to the creamed mixture and stir in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the prepared apples.
Make the Topping and Assemble

  2. Spoon the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the batter.
Baking

  2. Allow the cake to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm, and enjoy!

Notes

For variations, consider using different types of apples or adding nuts like almonds or walnuts for added crunch. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
