Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the eggs, one by one, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually mix this into the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk until just combined.
  5. Gently fold the chopped apples into the batter, ensuring they’re evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before serving it warm.

Notes

For the best results, use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples as they hold their shape well. To store, keep the cake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze individual slices wrapped tightly. Reheat in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds for a deliciously warm treat.
