Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out your pastry dough to a 1/8 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into rectangles about 3 x 4 inches in size.
Assembly
- Place a tablespoon of apple butter in the center of half of the rectangles, leaving space around the edges.
- Brush the edges with the beaten egg wash and top with another rectangle of dough, pressing down to seal.
- Crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative finish.
Baking
- Place the filled pop tarts on a parchment-lined baking sheet and make small cuts in the tops.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Icing
- While cooling, whisk together powdered sugar and milk to your desired icing consistency.
- Drizzle icing over the cooled pop tarts.
Notes
Store baked pop tarts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in a toaster oven or conventional oven for best results.
