Ingredients

Fritters Ingredients
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup milk (or almond/soy milk) Dairy-free option
  • 1 large egg (or flax egg for vegan option)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel and finely chop the onions. You can use a food processor to save time.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Gradually pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, ensuring no lumps remain.
  4. Gently fold in the chopped onions into the batter until they are evenly coated.
Frying
  1. In a large pan or skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium heat. To check if it’s hot enough, drop a tiny bit of batter in; it should sizzle immediately.
  2. Using a tablespoon or small ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of the onion batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on each side, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  3. Once done, remove the fritters and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
Serving
  1. Serve the fritters warm and enjoy with family.

Notes

For varying flavors, try using different onion varieties like red or sweet onions. Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature for crispiness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze uncooked fritters for longer storage.
