Ingredients
Method
Activation
- In a bowl, combine warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mixing
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine 2 ½ cups of flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, pour it into the flour mixture. Stir until combined.
Kneading
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, slowly add more flour until it’s smooth.
Shaping
- Divide the dough into equal portions (makes about 8 mini bagels). Roll each piece into a ball, then use your fingers to poke a hole through the center and stretch it to form a bagel shape.
Boiling
- In a pot, get water boiling and stir in the baking soda. One by one, place the shaped bagels into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then flip them and boil for another 30 seconds. Remove and place on a lined plate.
Topping
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Brush each bagel with egg wash, then sprinkle your choice of toppings, like sesame seeds.
Air Frying
- Place the bagels in the basket of your air fryer, ensuring they are not touching. Cook for 10-15 minutes until golden brown, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
Cooling
- Remove from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with your favorite spreads!
Notes
These mini bagels are best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to a month. To reheat, pop them back into the air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes.
