Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium head cabbage, cored and chopped
  • 1 lb ground halal beef or chicken
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional spices (e.g., cumin, paprika) as per preference

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent—about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef (or chicken) to the pot. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  3. Once the meat is cooked, stir in the chopped cabbage, cooked rice, and crushed tomatoes. Mix everything well.
  4. Cover the pot and let everything simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For reheating, use an oven or air fryer to retain texture instead of a microwave. Can be frozen for up to 3 months; thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
