Ingredients

For the Marinade
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2-3 limes)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound flank steak
Optional Toppings
  • fresh cilantro for garnish
  • sliced avocado for garnish
  • diced tomatoes for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together the lime juice, olive oil, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper to prepare the marinade.
  2. Place the flank steak in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Preheat your grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Remove the steak from the marinade, letting any excess drip off.
  2. Grill or pan-sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, adjusting for your preferred doneness.
  3. Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it against the grain into thin strips.
Serving
  1. Plate your steak and add your favorite toppings, such as fresh cilantro, avocado, or tomatoes. Enjoy!

Notes

Substitutions include sirloin or chicken breasts. Keep a close eye on cooking time to avoid overcooking. Allow resting for juicy steak and be sure to slice against the grain.
