Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon butter Can substitute with coconut oil or any neutral oil.
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Can reduce the amount for a healthier version.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Gluten-free substitutes can be used.
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • a pinch salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by selecting a microwave-safe mug. Ensure it has enough space for the ingredients to expand while cooking.
  2. Microwave the butter in the mug for about 20 seconds or until melted.
  3. Add water, sugar, and a splash of vanilla extract to the melted butter. Stir until well combined.
  4. Next, add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix thoroughly until you achieve a smooth batter without lumps.
  5. Place the mug in the microwave and cook on high for 40-60 seconds. Keep a close eye on it as microwave wattages vary. The brownie is done when it has puffed up and a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Let your brownie cool for a minute or two, then dive in! Enjoy it plain or add your favorite toppings.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds before enjoying.
